چکیده

This study was developed to carry out a comprehensive radiological assessment of natural radioactivity for river sediment samples from Calabria, southern Italy, and define baseline background the area on radiation map. In studied area, elevated levels radionuclides are expected, due outcropping acidic intrusive metamorphic rocks which radioactive elements derive. To identify quantify radioisotopes, ninety nine selected coastal sampling points (ten each point) were collected as representative Ionian Tyrrhenian coastline Calabria. The analyzed using gamma ray spectrometer equipped with high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector. values mean activity concentrations 226Ra, 232Th 40K measured (21.3 ± 6.3) Bq kg−1, (30.3 4.5) kg−1 (849 79) respectively. calculated hazard indices showed average 63 nGy h−1 (absorbed dose rate), 0.078 mSv y−1 (effective outdoors), 0.111 indoors), (radium equivalent), 0.35 (Hex), 0.41 (Hin), 0.50 (activity concentration index) 458 µSv (Annual Gonadal Equivalent Dose, AGED). order delineate spatial distribution map areas low, medium high values, Surfer 10 software employed. Finally, multivariate statistical analysis performed deduce interdependency any existing relationships between radionuclides. results this study, also compared other locations Italian Peninsula characterized by similar local geological conditions, can be used future investigations about in investigated area.

Natural radioactivity in ceramic tiles and associated radiological hazards

Background: The natural radioactivity levels in ceramic tiles produced in Turkey were determined and the related radiological hazards were assessed. Materials and Methods: The natural radioactivity levels (226Ra, 232Th and 40K) in the ceramic tiles were measured using high-purity germanium detector system (HPGe) and the related radiological hazards were assessed by radium equivalent activity (R...

Radiological Hazard Resulting from Natural Radioactivity of Soil in East of Shazand Power Plant

Introduction: Nuclear radiation is potentially harmful to humans and soil contamination with radionuclides is the main source of human radiation exposure. These radionuclides can., enter to human body through the food chain. In this study, 34 soil samples were collected from between Arak city and Shazand Power Plant over 20 km length and analyzed. Materials and Methods: The specific activities ...

Temporal properties of rainfall events in Calabria (southern Italy)

Temporal properties of 152 575 rainfall events, recorded at time steps of 5 min, having different durations and occurring between 1989 and 2008 at 155 localities of Calabria (Italy), have been analysed in this paper. Samples from 45 533 storms have been selected to classify rainfall events as “significant” with regard to their contribution to soil erosion, flooding and/or other geo-hydrological...

Assessment of Natural Radioactivity Levels and Potential Radiological Risks of Common Building Materials Used in Bangladeshi Dwellings

The concentrations of primordial radionuclides (226Ra, 232Th and 40K) in commonly used building materials (brick, cement and sand), the raw materials of cement and the by-products of coal-fired power plants (fly ash) collected from various manufacturers and suppliers in Bangladesh were determined via gamma-ray spectrometry using an HPGe detector. The results showed that the mean concentrations ...

Comparative assessment of natural radioactivity and radiological hazards in building tiles and sharp sand sourced locally and those imported from China and India

Background: Thirteen (13) types of building tiles and Sharp sand commonly used for building purposes were collected for their radionuclide contents analysis. Both imported and locally produced building tiles were examined.  Materials and Methods: The samples of tiles and sand were crushed to powder and they were prepared such that their content could be examined by the use of gamma-ray spectrom...
